Aveiro’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture is organizing the Open City, an initiative that will take place on May 14th and is open to the entire artistic community and will demonstrate the vitality and cultural diversity of Aveiro.
The Open City will be held between 10:00 am and 11:00 pm and will make the city an open stage with the most diverse artistic expressions, showing Aveiro’s energy, talent and ability to “make culture”.
The initiative is open to everyone, including artists, institutions, cultural agents and citizens, gathering music, dance, theatre, cinema, visual arts and several other artistic fields, revealed both in conventional and unlikely places, spread throughout the city.
It will be a multidisciplinary and open program, which will promote not only the enjoyment of artistic activities but also participation, showing the creative value of Aveiro.
The event is part of the second phase of Aveiro’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2027. This city is one of the four Portuguese cities to reach this stage, after a pre-selection that involved a total of twelve applications.
