Aveiro International Artistic Ceramics Biennial 2021 with the largest participation ever

The XV biennial will take place between october 30th and january 30th 2022, but the first details of this initiative organized by the Aveiro City Council are beginning to be known. 298 artists joined the contest, with 477 ceramic artworks, from 58 nationalities, representing 40 countries. Of these, 136 works were selected to proceed to the next phase, whose evaluation will take place on 27 and 28 of april. 

The bienal awards three prizes, with the first prize being 12 thousand euros, the second being eight thousand euros, and the third prize being five thousand euros. These values ​​apply exclusively to this edition, as a measure of support for the artistic sector in the current pandemic context. The jury of the aveiro biennial is made up of three foreign personalities: Benedetta Diamanti, director of the European Route of Ceramics Association, Pia Wirnfeldt, director of CLAY – ceramics museum of Denmark, and Oriol Calvo Vergés director of the museum of ceramics in Argentona, Barcelona, ​Spain. Also part of the jury are the portuguese Miguel Capão Filipe, of the Aveiro City Council, Alda Tomás, on behalf of Vista Alegre, Teresa Franqueiro, on behalf of the University of Aveiro, and Cláudia Milhazes, director of the pottery museum of barcelos.
