Culture Next welcomes six European cities in Aveiro

Aveiro Municipality hosted, on the 1st and 2nd of October, Culture Next’s Network third meeting, of which Aveiro is as a founding member city.

This meeting brought together ten cultural managers from six European cities: Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Neringa, Plunge e Klaipeda (Lithuania), Debrecen (Hungary), Leeds (United Kingdom), Braga and Faro (both from Portugal).

In the scope of this meeting, Culture Next members had the opportunity to visit Aveiro and get to know some of the places and essential elements of the cultural dimension of the city and its development potential. The working sessions made it possible to learn about case studies from participating cities, to discuss common challenges, and to present projects that might be implemented through European partnerships among network members.

This international meeting also included an open working session to share experiences and good practices on Cultural Development Strategies in Cities, where local agents could learn from two international experts – Mattjis Maussen (independent consultant expert in European Capitals of Culture) and Stefan Teisanu (Cultural Manager and Director of Cluj Cultural Center, Romania).

Working sessions were particularly important to raise the discussion on the network’s future purposes, namely its potential in defining European cultural policies.

Culture Next was founded in 2017 in Cluj, Romania, and connects former and current European Capital of Culture candidates. One of its main goals is the opportunity to share knowledge and experience on cultural strategies and to promote partnership projects.
