Culture Next will meet again in September

Culture Next’s members will meet again in September, this time around in Lithuania. The meeting will be held between the 25th and 29th in Klaipeda, Plunge and Neringa, candidate cities for European Capital of Culture in 2022.

Among the subjects to debate at this assembly are the organisational models to carry on with the implementation and regional cooperation, along with the topic of artistic residencies.

This will be the fifth meeting of Culture Next, a network that connects former and current European Capital of Culture candidates, founded in 2017 in Cluj, Romania. One of its main goals is the opportunity to share knowledge and experience on cultural strategies and to promote partnership projects. Aveiro is one of its founding members.

The meeting in Lithuania will succeed the one in Debrecen, Hungary, that was held in May. Several cities were represented, including five new members: Oulu (Finland), Dublin (Ireland), Gdansk (Poland), Belfast (Northern Ireland) and Nuremberg (Germany).

The Debrecen stage outlined the measures to be taken by each city until the end of 2020 to make culture a key factor in their development strategies. Cultural tourism as an urban development engine was also one of the topics discussed at Debrecen, a debate that took place at a public event. Local examples, nowadays challenges and future developments in this sector were some of the subjects considered at this event.
