An important step has been taken towards the creation of the Creative Change Academy, a new place for culture in Aveiro. This step forward consists of transferring the former Colégio Alberto Souto building, previously belonging to the Portuguese Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Justice, to the Municipality of Aveiro, which will manage the space from now on.
A competition for ideas to convert the old building is already taking place, looking for solutions to make it a place for artistic creation, with room for studios, residences, receptions, conferences, production and presentation. The Aveiro’ Municipal Archive will also be based at this location.
The municipality will have the building in its care for 50 years, with the possibility of ownership becoming permanent. The winning proposal of the ideas competition will receive a prize of 20,000 euros.
The Creative Change Academy is a project of Aveiro’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2027.
